Standing
Long Jump

Jumping for distance — explosive power and skill in a single decisive movement.

Jumping
for distance

This is a very widespread game. It can be organized or spontaneous, performed at festivities or competitions, and quite often without any prior planning or organization at all.

Ploughed land or soft ground is chosen for the long jump. The take-off point is marked with a drawn line, a stick, a furrow, or similar. Alongside their knightly, competitive character, the jumps also carry an element of pure fun.

Types
of jumps
01
Standing Long Jump
"Trupačke"

A take-off from both feet with no run-up. Sometimes performed while holding small stones (1–1.5 kg) in each hand to gain extra distance.

02
Running Long Jump
"Zagoničke, zagone"

A take-off from one foot after a run-up — landing on the same foot, or with both feet together. The speed of the approach converts into maximum distance.

03
Triple Jump
"Three-step jump"

A take-off from one foot, a landing and push-off from the other, then a final landing on both feet. A combination of coordination, rhythm and explosive power.

The contests draw local residents, villagers from neighboring settlements, and travelers who happen to be passing through. The winner is whoever achieves the greatest distance. There is generally no prize.

The standing long jump, or "trupačke," is sometimes performed while the jumper holds small stones weighing roughly 1–1.5 kg in each hand, in order to gain extra distance.
